Ireland – Culinary Magic Itinerary
DAY 1 ARRIVE IN SHANNON, IRELAND: Arriving into Shannon travel to Killarney to check in at The Killarney Park Hotel. When you check in at the five star Killarney Park Hotel, you will feel as if you’ve been given the keys to the Kingdom of Kerry. You’ve arrived. The Park Restaurant is the Killarney Park’s flagship fine dining room. The Garden Bar offers a full bar, teas, coffees and bar snacks available throughout the day, plus fine range of Whiskeys, cocktails and wine. After some time to rest, travel from Killarney, through Kenmare and on to the small hamlet of Bonane. Here, Lorge Chocolatier, run by Benoit Lorge, is a feast for the senses for chocolate lovers. Set in what was the old post office of this tiny village. See chocolates being made and taste the expertly crafted wares of a skilled French chocolate maker. Return to Killarney where the remainder of your day is at leisure. This evening, enjoy dinner in your hotel. Hotel Name: Killarney Park Hotel. (D)
DAY 2 DINGLE EXCURSION: Today head out to the beautiful Dingle Peninsula. This peninsula is a Gaeltacht, a unique area where the Irish language is preserved. There is time to explore the town of Dingle, a colorful fishing port. Visit Gorman’s Clifftop House Restaurant for lunch. This restaurant overlooks beautiful Smerwick Harbour and out across the Atlantic Ocean. The room has a working fireplace which often has a blaze going in the grate. As with all Good Food Ireland Approved Providers, local produce and suppliers are very much part of the culinary experience. This being a seaside location, you’d expect to find a good selection of seafood on the a la carte menu. Later, return to Killarney where the rest of your day is free. DAY 3 KILLARNEY / CORK: After a leisurely breakfast in the atmospheric dining room of The Killarney Park Hotel, you will travel via a winding road through Kerry mountains into County Cork and toward Cork City. For lunch, your group might consider Nash 19 on Princes Street, or tour the famous food Mecca that is the English Market. Here above the market stalls, Farmgate Cafe serves only the best market produce in a restaurant alive with chatter about food and market happenings.
Alternatively, take the option of travelling to West Cork, where the artisan food movement was born over three decades ago. The Bantry region offers casual dining in a West Cork country pub location at Willie Pa’s on the Bantry Road, or the best of local seafood in O’Connors Seafood Restaurant in Bantry town.
Later, travel to Hayfield Manor. This hotel is set in its own peaceful grounds beside the revered educational buildings of University College Cork. This hotel offers five star luxury to all guests. Here you will spend the evening, enjoying the splendor of a hotel which combines every comfort with warm and friendly personal service. En route, you may wish to stop in the Dungarvan region of County Waterford to visit the Dungarvan Brewing Company. This artisan brewery makes a range of Irish craft beers which appeal to lovers of real beer! The imperial grandeur of The Granville Hotel in Waterford City is your destination for this evening. Waterford is a great heritage city to explore. Heaps of history, plus a wealth of shops, boutiques and galleries on its small side streets. The Granville’s great location on the quay means pleasant strolling before dinner in the brisk sea air. Enjoy a walking tour this evening before having dinner in the hotel restaurant. DAY 5 WATERFORD / KILKENNY / DUBLIN: After breakfast this morning, pause to visit the House of Waterford Crystal. Afterwards, travel to Kilkenny. Visit Kilkenny Castle, built in the 13th century and home to the powerful Butler family for almost 600 years. Onward to Dublin. Brooks Hotel is tucked away in a small side street in Dublin’s city center. This convenient boutique hotel provides stunning culinary accommodation. Enjoy the remainder of your day at leisure. This evening, enjoy dinner in Francesca’s Restaurant located in the hotel. Hotel Name: Brooks Hotel. (B/D)
DAY 6 DUBLIN: Today, visit the Guinness Storehouse, Dublin’s no.1 tourist attraction and have lunch in Gilroy’s Restaurant after your tour. Enjoy whiskey tasting at the Celtic Whiskey Store sampling Ireland’s premier whiskies. This evening, dine in award winning Toscana Italian Restaurant, run by a husband and wife team who grow their own fresh produce for the menu. While in Dublin, your group may also like to visit Trinity College and the Book of Kells, Dublin Castle, or St. Patrick’s.
